Fountain on Omonia lit up with Ukrainian colors for Europe Day

The fountain on Omonia Square, located in the center of Athens, was lit with the colors of the Ukrainian flag on Monday, May 9.

As part of the celebration of Europe Day and as a sign of support for the struggling Ukraine, the municipality of Athens lit up the fountain with the colors of the national flag of Ukraine. In addition, on Monday, the presidential palace was lit in the colors of Ukraine “as a sign of solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people who are fighting for freedom, independence, the rule of law and the right to self-determination, for the basic values ​​of culture,” as stated in the relevant statement.

Recall that May 9 is usually celebrated in Greece Europe Daywhich this year coincided with the 41st anniversary of Greece’s accession to EU.


Europe Day is an annual holiday of peace and unity in the countries of the European Union, the Council of Europe.
