Today, May 10, for three hours, from 9 to 12, part of public transport will not run in Athens – metro, trams, city trains. Buses and trolleybuses will be on the line according to the usual schedule. Doctors and nurses will stop working.
The unions say they are suspending work for three hours in connection with the strike announced by the Athens Labor Center (Εργατικό Κέντρο της Αθήνας) and are inviting all of its participants to a planned protest rally under the “law of Hatzidakis”. The action will take place at 9:30 am at the State Council (Συμβούλιο της Επικρατείας) at st. Panepistimiou, 47-49 (Πανεπιστημίου 47-49). It will consider the ESA’s appeal “against the ’cause’ of workers’ unions and control over the exercise of rights and freedoms, which are the essence of the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of trade unions.” Public transport unions say:
“The workers are not ready to put up with the application of these unconstitutional, undemocratic provisions, and the struggle will continue until the anti-labor law is repealed.”
Stopping work from 11:00 to 15:00 on Tuesday doctors and nurses. Procession to the Parliament and rally at 11:30 am at the Ministry of Health, on the day the bill on primary health care (Πρωτοβάθμια Φροντίδα Υγείας, ΠΦΥ) was adopted.ΠΟΕΔΗΝ).
The federations are rejecting a bill for ΠΦΥ, which, according to ΟΕΝΓΕ, “is aimed at further reducing public spending on the health of the people, at further commercialization and privatization of healthcare.” ΟΕΝΓΕ requires:
“Full development of the state and completely free healthcare system and ΠΦΥ with health centers and regional medical centers. Full staffing with permanent doctors of all specialties and family doctors, medical workers of all specialties and modern equipment.”
The ΠΟΕΔΗΝ calls to withdraw the bill, demanding strong healthcare, the abolition of the suspension of work, the hiring of contract workers, inclusion in the ΒΑΕ, a significant increase in wages, writes newsbeast.
