A plant worker suffered severe burns to his entire body from a fire that followed an explosion at the plant’s power plant. Although he was rushed to the burn unit of the Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki, doctors were unable to save him.
ALFA WOOD GROUP said in a statement that “the accident, at first glance, was due to an explosion caused by an oil leak during scheduled maintenance of an Italian generator” and that “a thorough investigation is being carried out jointly to establish the exact causes of the accident in order to punish those responsible “.
The company expresses “condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased” and reports that due to mourning, the enterprise will be closed for two days.
With regard to the investigation, according to the information of the fire department, which carried out the pre-investigation work, an engineer from Italy is expected to arrive until tomorrow (Saturday), who, in cooperation with the technical team already at the plant, will control the pumping out of special lubricants found in circuits and pipelines systems so that the fire brigade can later proceed to pump out the water at the site where the explosion occurred.
When these actions are completed, experts will arrive at the scene to monitor and investigate the causes of the explosion.
