Protest at the Embassy of Ukraine demanding the immediate release of young communists

On April 20, 2022, an association uniting those who studied in socialist countries held a protest rally near the walls of the Embassy of Ukraine in Greece, reports KKE.

At a meeting with representatives of the embassy, they were handed a document with the following content:

We, as an association, clearly and clearly opposed the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine, as a dangerous stage in the escalation of confrontation between the imperialist poles, this time sacrificing the people of Ukraine.

At the same time, we are particularly concerned about the arrest in early March of the first secretary of the Leninist Communist Youth Union of Ukraine, Mikhail Kononovich, and his brother Alexander. We demand the immediate release of the Kononovich brothers and all others detained for their beliefs and ideology, as well as the lifting of all repressive anti-democratic measures, such as the ban on the activities of the Communist Party and all opposition parties.

Moreover, given that the Security Council of Ukraine has imposed sanctions and declared Greek citizens, including Vice-Chairman of the Greek Parliament Georgy Lambroulis, who is a member of our association, and other members of our association, under the pretext that they participated as observers in the electoral process that took place in Donbass, expressing solidarity with the people of Ukraine, we demand the immediate lifting of the above sanctions and the status of “undesirable person” that was imposed on members of our association and those who expressed solidarity with the suffering Ukrainian people“.

On March 6, the media appeared messages about the arrest by the SBU of the first secretary of the Leninist Communist Youth Union of Ukraine Mikhail Kononovich. Together with Mikhail, his brother Alexander, who also took an active part in the activities of the Ukrainian Komsomol, was thrown into jail. The brothers are said to be in danger of death.

“The official reason for the arrest was the “pro-Russian and pro-Belarusian” views of the brothers – thus, the Kyiv junta does not hide the fact that in modern Ukraine people are arrested not even for specific actions or statements, but for their beliefs,” the publication reports. CPRF

“Before that, for eight years, the brothers were regularly attacked by radical nationalists: Mikhail and Alexander were beaten right on the streets of Kyiv, illegally detained, threatened with reprisals against their relatives and friends. Nevertheless, even in such conditions, the Komsomol members continued to work, refused to abandon their people and Komsomol organization“, – stated in the publication of the publication of the Communists of Russia.

Communist delegation at the Russian embassy

On the same day, the delegation of the board of the association held a meeting with the first secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation. At this meeting, the members of the association handed over the document and condemned the statements of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin, who in his address of February 24 of this year. declared that Lenin and the Bolsheviks were to blame for the modern contradictions generated by intra-imperialist rivalry, and that his government would teach the Ukrainian government “decommunization”.

Members of the KKE delegation, in particular, pointed out that “denazification” and “decommunization” cannot coexist, especially when the former actually becomes a pretext for the latter.

They also asked for information about the criminal prosecution of members of Marxist circles in Russia, as, for example, was recently in Ufa, about the persecution of opponents of the imperialist war, and demanded an immediate end to the persecution, the immediate withdrawal of charges on ideological grounds and the immediate release of those serving sentences.
