Died the oldest inhabitant of the planet at the age of 119 years

A Japanese woman, officially recognized as the oldest person in the world, died on April 19 at the age of 119, local authorities said.

Kane Tanaka was born on February 1, 1903 in Fukuoka, southeastern Japan. In the same year, the Wright brothers made their first flight, and Marie Curie became the first woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize.

Tanaka was relatively healthy until recently and lived in a nursing home in her hometown. There she liked to play board games, solve mathematical problems, but at the same time she had a weakness for soda and chocolate.

At a young age, Tanaka was engaged in trade, being the owner of a shop selling noodles. She married in 1922, had four children of her own and adopted a fifth.

She was going to take part in the torch relay at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics (in her wheelchair) but abandoned the risky venture due to the coronavirus pandemic.

When the Guinness Book of World Records awarded her the title of the world’s oldest living person in 2019, she was asked what was the happiest moment in her life, and she answered: “Now.”

In her daily life, she got up at 06:00 in the morning and devoted the afternoon to studying mathematics and practicing calligraphy.
