Contract killing: a well-known recidivist was shot from a Kalashnikov assault rifle

The well-known mafia and nightclub protector Yannis Skaftouros was found dead in his summer home in the village of Skurta (Viotia).

According to the information, the 55-year-old famous recidivist, who was repeatedly involved in the past by Greek law enforcement agencies in “serious” cases, including the kidnapping of businessman Panagopoulos, was found dead in the courtyard of his house. The crime took place at 12:10, when the perpetrators approached Giannis Skaftouros on a motorcycle and fired shots from a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

At the scene were two local residents 22 and 45 years old. Both of them received gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital. According to iefimerida.gr, the youngest is the daughter of a mafioso. A preliminary investigation is being carried out in the security department of Thebes.

Who was Yiannis Skaftouros?

The name of Giannis Skaftouros is known as the leader of one of the national organized crime gangs. Authorities have dealt with him for the past 25 years as he has been charged with kidnapping, extortion, bombings and armed assault. One such case was the kidnapping of Pericles Panagopoulos, for which he was convicted in the first instance, but acquitted in the second. In June 2018, he was assassinated in Korydallos prison. He was released about two years ago.

The last “meeting” with the police took place in February 2020 in Glyfada. There, during a random check carried out by DI.AS. officers, it turned out that J. Skaftouros had a pistol (in illegal possession), as well as a walkie-talkie tuned to the police frequency.
