Scooters and bicycles for public use in 43 municipalities

The public cycling program, combined with the creation of parking lots and charging stations, will be funded by ΕΣΠΑ, and its total budget reaches 16.6 million euros.

The system of public electric bicycles or scooters will allow citizens in 37 municipalities of Attica and six municipalities of Thessaloniki to move around the city comfortably.

Bicycles will have a “parking” station, a place for which will be determined in each municipality. However, the goal of many mayors is that a bicycle owned by the municipality can be driven and parked in neighboring municipalities, for the greater convenience of citizens.

The program budget reaches 16.6 million euros. In Thessaloniki, public electric bicycles are expected to be installed in the municipalities of Kalamaria, Ampelokipi-Menemeni, Cordelio-Evosmos, Neapoli-Sikeon, Pavlou Mela and Pilaia-Chortiatis. The aim of the project is to develop a communal network at the level of metropolitan municipalities, which, in combination with other projects, will help improve traffic within the city.

As provided, citizens will be able to get a card to access the public bicycle systemwhich will be used to identify the user (and his responsibility for state property).

Through the mobile application, each user will be able to see if there are free bikes at the charging station he is heading to and how much battery charge they have in order to calculate whether he can use public transport. Use of the bicycle rental system is provided for free.
