Mitsotakis: “Our prayers are addressed to the citizens of Ukraine”

The date of the meeting between Mitsotakis and Biden has been determined. On the eve of Easter, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed the citizens of Ukraine and the trapped residents of Mariupol.

In his social media post, as quoted by cnn.grthe Greek Prime Minister writes:

“On these holy days of Orthodox Easter, our prayers are addressed to the citizens of Ukraine and especially to the people trapped in Mariupol. In accordance with international laws and human norms, they must be provided with a safe escape route from the besieged city.”

The publication reportsthat Mitsotakis and US President Joe Biden will meet on May 16. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said:

President Biden looks forward to meeting Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the White House on May 16, 2022. The Prime Minister’s visit provides an opportunity to reaffirm our close bilateral cooperation and celebrate the 201st anniversary of Greece’s independence.

The leaders will discuss ongoing efforts with allies and partners to support the people of Ukraine and impose financial sanctions on Russia for its unprovoked aggression.

As our publication reported, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held telephone conversation with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the latest developments in Ukraine and the upcoming meeting in the 3+1 format (Greece, Cyprus, Israel and the USA). According to the State Department statement, the parties “also discussed the upcoming meeting of the 3+1 mechanism to strengthen energy and economic cooperation between Greece, the Republic of Cyprus, Israel and the United States, and promote goals that are underpinned by shared democratic ideals of regional stability and prosperity.”
