Maria Zakharova accused Greece of "lack of independence"

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, reacted with irony to the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Greece. She reminded the people of the country about the sad date and wrote how symbolic that Russian diplomats were expelled on a very specific day – April 6th. Day of Nuland’s meeting with Greek Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, spoke in her Telegram channel about the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Greece. She recalled that Russia and Greece have deep historical roots:

Recently, Greece, with which we have deep historical roots, announced the expulsion of Russian diplomats on a very specific date – April 6th. AndInterestingly, Greece announced the expulsion of our diplomats on 6 April. It was on this day that US representative Victoria Nuland was in Athens, as the local newspaper “Kathimerini” wrote about. And if Nuland appears somewhere, then don’t expect good things from there.“.

But there is another historical parallel. “Secondly, April 6, as symbolically, is a dark day in the history of Hellas. It was on April 6, 1941 that the Nazi Reich attacked the peninsula (Operation Marita), for the Greeks April 6 is like June 22 for us. What was it on the part of American advisers – a coincidence or a devilishly accurate calculation?” – wrote Zakharova.

“But the result is obvious – the state, liberated and recreated in due time thanks to the help of Russia, whose first leader was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia (Ioannis Kapodistrias), remained practically without diplomatic relations with our country. And this despite the fact that we share faith with the Greeks , we inherit the same tradition and have never refused to help our Greek friends at all. What is our last year’s help with the fires in the Peloponnese worth?

In fact, in his post, the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs rebukes Greece for being a member of NATO, noting: “It’s not even bad that Euro-Atlantic solidarity erases the past, after all, who to honor is the sovereign choice of the nation. Too bad he [НАТО] deprives people and peoples of the future, independence and the right to this sovereign choice.”

“These are the historical parallels, turning into a double solid line,” the speaker of the Russian Foreign Ministry sums up his statement.
