Mariupol: surrender weapons in exchange for life

“Everyone who laid down their arms is guaranteed the preservation of their lives,” said Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Center for Defense Control of the Russian Federation.

According to Deutsche Welle, such an offer came from the Russian military to the defenders of Mariupol, located in the blocked port city. We are talking, according to Mezentsev, about “blocked in Mariupol at the Azovstal metallurgical plant.” TASS, in the event of a cessation of hostilities from 06:00 Moscow time on Sunday and the laying down of arms, the Ukrainian military is guaranteed the preservation of life. According to him, the RF Armed Forces made such a decision, “taking into account the catastrophic situation that has developed at the Azovstal metallurgical plant, and also being guided by purely humane principles.” The following scheme of actions is proposed:

  • from 05:00 Moscow time, continuous communication is established between the Russian and Ukrainian sides for the exchange of information;
  • from 05:30 Moscow time, “complete silence mode” is announced;
  • at 06:00 Moscow time, the sides raise flags: Russian – red, Ukrainian – white around the entire perimeter of Azovstal.

The parties must confirm through all communication channels the fact of readiness to introduce a regime of silence. From 06:00 to 13:00, all Ukrainian armed units and foreign mercenaries will leave without weapons and ammunition, the newspaper writes. The beginning of the “silence mode” will be indicated by the raising of the flags at 6.00 Moscow time: from Russia – red, from Ukraine – white, along the entire perimeter of the factory territory. The fact that the parties are ready to introduce a “silence regime” is confirmed through all communication channels.

Mizintsev claims that the content of the negotiations between the national formations and mercenaries blocked in Mariupol at the Azovstal metallurgical plant indicates their hopeless situation, they insistently demand permission from official Kyiv to surrender, but in response they receive threats of executions:

“During April 16, 2022, there was a sharp increase in the intensity of radio communications by militants of nationalist formations and foreign mercenaries blocked in Mariupol at the Azovstal metallurgical plant. militants are in a hopeless situation, practically without food and water.They insistently demand permission from the official authorities of Kyiv to lay down their arms and surrender.At the same time, representatives of the Ukrainian authorities categorically forbid this and threaten further executions under the conditions of “wartime”.

Declaration of surrender, writes RIA News, will be continuously broadcast throughout the night to the Ukrainian formations at Azovstal on all radio channels every 30 minutes. It will be brought through all available information resources to the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the OSCE and other international organizations.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports, as it writes today “Ukrainian Truth”that presumably the invaders are preparing for an amphibious naval operation in Mariupol. The statement of the General Staff says, the publication quotes:

“The movement of Russian units to the territory of Ukraine from the Kursk, Bryansk and Voronezh regions continues. The units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation located on Ukrainian territory have significant problems with provision. At the same time, they were able to accumulate significant stocks of ammunition. “, the dissatisfaction of the personnel is growing, the moral and psychological state remains at a low level. Russian military personnel constantly complain about the lack of rotation, equipment that constantly breaks down, the quality of the supplied fuel and food.”

So far, neither Ukraine nor the forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine blocked in Mariupol have officially responded to the proposals of the Russian side.
