Japanese scientists have developed an effective disinfectant coating against COVID-19.
In a scientific publication scientific reports An article was published about the unique development of scientists from Japan: an antiviral coating against COVID-19 reliably protects against infection.
As tells BB.LV, scientists from the Nara Medical University, the Kanagawa Institute of Industrial Science and Technology and the Tokyo Institute of Technology took part in the work. As a result, a disinfectant coating has appeared that is used for antiviral protection, including against various variants of SARS-CoV-2.
The need for such coverage is long overdue. The coronavirus spreads by airborne droplets, and its microscopic particles generously dot any surfaces. Disinfection with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide is not very reliable due to the rapid evaporation of such substances, so the treatment must be carried out continuously.
The innovative coating is a photocatalyst that is made using a combination of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and copper oxide (CuO) nanoclusters. It successfully destroys various variants of SARS-CoV-2 and is effective indoors in both dark and light conditions.
