Ivan Savvidi sends aid to Donbass

The Federation “Greeks of Russia” headed by Ivan Savvidis sent cars and generators to Donbass as humanitarian aid. The transfer of them to units, law enforcement agencies and emergency services was personally controlled by the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin.

Today, another influx of humanitarian aid is off-road vehicles and generators. Over the past period of time, we have come across the fact that now from all over Russia, and from various sources – from the authorities, political parties, regions of the Russian Federation, ordinary people – the necessary help and support is coming in such a difficult period for Donbass. There is a liberation of the Donetsk People’s Republic within the constitutional boundaries, but, of course, the shoulder of citizens of the Russian Federation close to us is very tangible for us.

Today, support has come from the Greeks of Russia. I would like to thank the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of the Greeks and personally Ivan Ignatievich Savvidi for their support. This support will continue, and today the vehicles will be delivered to our frontline units. Also, cars will be received by our law enforcement agencies associated with the implementation of tasks at the forefront, and youth volunteer organizations, in particular the DND (Voluntary People’s Guard – ed.), which are involved in the liberated territories.

All actions, including all support, are aimed at the speedy liberation of the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic within the constitutional boundaries and the establishment of a peaceful life“, – said Denis Pushilin.

The head of the republic handed over the keys and documents for the vehicles, which immediately became available to law enforcement agencies and emergency services. According to Oleg Ivanov, head of the rear and reserve department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the DPR, “the arrived generators are necessary to provide electricity to the population of the territories of the Donetsk People’s Republic liberated from Ukrainian occupation.”

Cars, according to the information of “Greeks of Russia”, “will be used to provide medical care, as well as to deliver humanitarian supplies to residents of remote areas of Mariupol, nearby villages and farms.

According to the federation’s statement, Greek associations from all over Russia took part in the collection of assistance for the affected people: from Moscow, Crimea, Rostov region, Stavropol and Krasnodar regions, Tomsk and Sverdlovsk regions, Tatarstan, North Ossetia (Alania).

Greek media note that gratitude was expressed to Ivan Savvidis personally by Denis Pushilin, the leader of the Donetsk People’s Republic, which is not recognized in Europe, the USA and most countries of the world. Direct assistance in the form of cars and generators raises questions and could put the Greek government in a difficult position, given the perspective of a united Europe in the current situation.

The tovima edition reproaches Savvidi is that he did not help the inhabitants on the other side (meaning on the side of Ukraine. Editor’s note), thus dividing them into “right and wrong.” “The proof of this is the gratitude that Denis Pushilin hastened to express to Ivan Savvidis for receiving help and support in the “liberated territories”, giving this help a specific political color.

This choice of assistance confirms the opinion of those who argue that the position and actions of Ivan Savvidis in Russia are different from those of a simple businessman. He is a public figure, with a responsible position as a representative of the community in institutions, which, in fact, corresponds to the official policy of Russia and manifests itself at the level of sending humanitarian aid to the Donbass.

The publication notes that “National-cultural autonomy is a semi-state institution in Russia, representing ethnic groups that do not have their own territory, and is the “official expression” of the Greeks of Russia.

As president of the organization, Ivan Savvidis is part of the Russian political system in the broadest sense, while, among other things, he owns major media outlets in Greece at a time when Greece is following politics EU on countering Russian intervention in Ukraine and condemning Putin’s expansionist policies”.

Earlier, on Thursday, April 7, according to the Federation of Greek Communities of Russia, humanitarian aid (food) and cars equipped with tanks containing up to 30 tons of drinking water were delivered to Mariupol.
