After two years of constant travel restrictions, we can finally return to the dream again. Travel lovers around the world are desperate to book a ticket to their next destination and start catching up.

But which destinations are at the top of our list?

Holiday, the British holiday rental search engine, has compiled a list of must-visit destinations in 2022! After analyzing Google searches over the past 12 months, this ranking shows the countries people want to visit the most.

The 30 most popular countries people want to travel to in 2022:

1. Turkey – 102,100 searches per month

This year, Turkey has become the most popular country for travelers. With over 102,000 searches in total, this makes Turkey a clear favorite. Whether you prefer a beach trip to Antalya, a weekend in Istanbul or a romantic getaway to Cappadocia, Turkey has it all. Turkish cuisine offers delicious dishes including meze and sweet treats like baklava. Yum!

2. Greece – 89,800 searches per month

It’s time to make your biggest Mamma Mia fantasies come true! Greece is the second most popular country for people planning their holidays. This country offers an incredible amount of archeology, history, art and philosophy, as well as hundreds of beautiful beaches and crystal clear water – so everyone will enjoy their holidays here! If that’s not enough, Greek food is to die for. Has anyone tried souvlaki?

3. Maldives – 83,700 searches per month

In third place is the Maldives. Undoubtedly the most luxurious option on this list, the popularity of the stunning Indian Ocean islands has skyrocketed in recent years. White sandy beaches, turquoise blue waters and a vibrant underwater world… It’s no surprise that influencers flock to these stunning islands for vacation. The country has over 100 resorts with their own private islands, each boasting their own incredible beaches, so you’ll be satisfied whichever island you choose.

4. Spain – 74,320 searches per month

The country of tapas, paella and sangria ranks fourth. Spain has always been an absolute favorite for British travelers and 2022 is no different. With some of the finest beaches and most captivating mountain ranges in Europe, Spain offers a varied landscape just waiting to be explored. In 2022, Iceland was ranked 10th in the world in terms of travel destinations. Methodology:

For this study, all 195 countries of the world were considered. The UK was excluded to have a ranking not based on the host country of the experts. The rankings were then compiled using the average number of monthly Google searches over the last 12 months, for each of the country names, combined with the following keywords: “holidays to”, “things to do in” and “flights to” to determine which countries were the most popular and in demand by travelers.
