Berlusconi: “I am deeply disappointed and saddened”

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said last Saturday that he was disappointed with the behavior of Putin, with whom he had been on friendly terms for many years.

As writes ReutersQuoting the words of the tycoon at the congress of his conservative party Forza Italia in Rome, the ex-prime minister of Italy believes that the Russian president must take responsibility before the world for the invasion of Ukraine:

“I met him 20 years ago, and he always seemed to me a man of democracy and peace … what a pity. The attack on Ukraine, instead of bringing Russia into Europe, threw it into the arms of China… what a pity, what a pity.”

The comment was the first since February 24 in which Berlusconi publicly expressed his attitude towards the actions of the Russian president. In 2015, he not only considered him “undoubtedly the number one among world leaders,” but even once called him “little brother.”
