Greece extends the validity of vaccination and recovery certificates. NOTAM for domestic flights

Greece has extended the validity of vaccination and recovery certificates in accordance with the European Union directive, which came into force on Monday 5 April 2022.

At the same time, the validity of vaccination certificates is extended to 9 months – from 7 months earlier, and the validity of certificates of recovery – up to 6 months – from 3 months earlier.

It should be emphasized that the validity period of the certificate for citizens who received revaccination (3rd dose) or 4th doseis not limited.

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority issued an Air Directive (NOTAM) for domestic flights on April 5, which also notes the new rules.

According to the updated NOTAM, vaccinated travelers are now must have a vaccination certificate valid for nine months from the date of full vaccination against Covid-19. ABOUTit is noted that for travelers who have received booster dose, no expiration date. Travelers who have recovered from Covid-19 must have a certificate of recovery valid for 6 months from the date of issue.

As a reminder, travelers can fly domestic flights in Greece even with a negative PCR/rapid antigen test result. The updated Covid-19 aviation directive is part of the Greek government’s efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

Covid rules for domestic flights: for Greeks and foreign visitors

  • Vaccination certificate valid for nine months (270 days) since full vaccination against Covid-19 and no limit period of validity for travelers who have received booster dose.
  • Foreigners are required to have certificate of vaccination in one of the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Russian. The certificate of vaccination must be issued by a government agency and contain the name of the traveler, the type of vaccine administered, and the number of doses.
  • Alternatively, travelers may submit a digital or printed COVID certificate EU (or a similar certificate from a non-EU country) as proof that the person has been vaccinated against Covid-19 or has a negative test result or recovered from coronavirus.
  • Or a certificate of recovery from coronavirus, valid for 6 months (180 days) from the date of issue. The certificate must be issued by a government agency or certified laboratory in one of the following languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian.

Unvaccinated passengers

Have a negative PCR test done within 72 hours prior to travel, or a negative rapid antigen test within 48 hours prior to travel.

Minors between the ages of 4 and 17 can fly with a negative self-test carried out no later than 24 hours before the scheduled flight time.

Masks are required on board the aircraft, as well as in the arrivals and departures areas of airports.
