EC officially announces sanctions against Russia

In the official announcement by the European Commission of new sanctions against Russia, a ban on work in EU transport companies from Russia and Belarus.

The introduction of the fifth package of restrictions for the Russian Federation, after what happened in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, was officially announced by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Among the main ones:

  • a complete ban on transactions with the four largest Russian banks, including VTB;
  • a ban on the import of Russian coal worth four billion euros per year;
  • a ban on Russian ships entering EU ports. The exceptions include the delivery of humanitarian aid and food, energy. From now on, Russian and Belarusian motor transport enterprises will not be able to work in the EU;
  • a ban on imports of goods from Russia worth 5.5 billion euros per year – cement, timber, alcohol and seafood;
  • a ban on exports in key areas – engineering, semiconductors, transport – in the amount of 10 billion euros per year;
  • a ban on the participation of Russian companies in public procurement in the EU and the exclusion of any financial support from Russian state bodies;
  • significant expansion of restrictions on individuals.

Ursula von der Leyen, according to the publication bb.lvpromised:

“We are also working on additional sanctions, including on oil imports.”
