Greece offered to treat Ukrainian children with cancer. Minister of Health Thanos Plevris made such an offer to his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Lyashko via videoconference.
The main topic of discussion was the transfer of children with cancer, as well as their families from Ukraine to the Department of Pediatric Oncology named after. Marianna V. Vardinogianni “ELPIDA” of the Children’s Hospital “Agia Sophia” in Athens, in order to complete their treatment.
This step was an initiative of the President of the Association “ELPIDA-Association of Friends of Children with Cancer” Marianna Vladimirovna Vardinogianni, who will ensure the safe transfer of children from Ukraine to Greece, as well as hospitality to their families in the ELPIDA hostel or in apartments next to the oncology department – for as long as it takes .
In addition, Lyashko asked Plevris to consider the possibility of receiving Ukrainians wounded in the war for their recovery and rehabilitation in medical institutions in Greece.
Greece already hosted for the treatment of military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and volunteer battalions during the ATO in eastern Ukraine in 2015.
