In the UK, a mother poisoned her child with ketamine so that he would not interfere with her during sex

The case of the murder of 9-year-old Georgina in Patras by her mother Rula Pispirigo shocked all of Greece. Modern Medea was reported by most of the major news agencies. There are common elements in the tragic story that took place in the UK in 2013, when a mother poisoned her daughter with ketamine.

A four-year-old girl died after her mother “druged her with heroin, methadone and ketamine, which she called smarties” because she was annoyed by the girl and “didn’t let her calmly have sex with her boyfriend.”

Michala Pike, 37, wrote to her drug-dealing partner, John Ritting, 40, a message saying she had given a little girl a pill: “Poppy got her blue smart and she’s going to bed now.” It was found that the couple allegedly drugged the baby for six months. Tests showed that she also contained the “dance drugs” ketamine, heroin, and methadone, a heroin substitute.

Poppy was allegedly physically and emotionally abused by her mother and her partner. Police found more than 1,000 blister packs of the drug in their shabby Grimsby apartment, jurors said.

The couple called an ambulance to the child, who, according to them, “turned blue and was not breathing.” Doctors found an unconscious child lying on an old sagging sofa. The girl died the next day in a Sheffield hospital. The investigation was unable to determine the cause of her death.

Prosecutor David Gordon said the couple has not yet been charged with murder or manslaughter as there was no evidence to charge them with the child’s death. However, it was noted that there were clear indications that the girl had been given illegal substances. Mr Gordon said, “She [Пайк] considered her own child a hindrance to a “fun life” with Ritting.”

Investigators continued to “unwind” the case. The medical examiner found traces of heroin and methadone in Poppy’s hair. An autopsy revealed multiple bruises on the child’s body, including on the shoulders, legs and buttocks. As a result, the couple was arrested and sentenced to many years in prison.
