Ukraine is recognized as a candidate for membership in EU and will provide comprehensive assistance in the restoration of the country after the end of the war, the EP promises.
This was stated by Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, on Friday, April 1, during her visit to Kyiv. She promises that European partners will make every effort to rebuild Ukrainian cities and villages after the war:
“We will recognize Ukraine as a candidate for EU membership officially and quickly. I promise you this from the European Parliament.”
The President of the European Parliament emphasized that the encroachment of the Russian Federation on Ukraine, its territory and freedom, is an encroachment on the whole of Europe and the current world order. Roberta Metsola assured that all Ukrainian settlements subjected to crushing blows from the aggressor will be rebuilt, and the EU countries stand side by side with the Ukrainians in the fight against the invaders. The head of the EP said:
“I want to say on behalf of all the European peoples that make up the family of the European Parliament that we are amazed, admired, inspired by the courage of the Ukrainian people, the courage of the Ukrainian army, the resilience of the people. Parliamentary democracy has received a second wind in Europe thanks to the feat of the Ukrainian people and the actions of the Ukrainian parliament.”
President of the European Parliament Robert Metsola 1 April is on a visit in Kyiv, where she took part in the plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a statement on accession to the EU on the fifth day after the start of the Russian invasion. He asked the bloc to allow Ukraine to immediately gain membership in accordance with a special procedure. On the same day, the EU officially started the procedure for considering Ukraine’s application.
