Over the past day, 300 Ukrainian refugees arrived in Greece

The Ministry of Civil Protection, based on data from the Greek Police Headquarters, reports that over the past 24 hours (01/04/2022) 300 Ukrainian refugees arrived in Greece, of which 78 are minors.

The testimonies of those who arrived from the conflict zone are shocking. Citizens of Ukraine arrived “light”, they need help, in some cases medical. The Greek authorities have created electronic platform for applying for temporary asylum status on the territory of the country, indicated by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

Refugee details:

  • Promachonas: 161 people.
  • Evzonis: 27 people.
  • Across other land borders: 62 people.
  • 40 citizens of Ukraine arrived at Eleftherios Venizelos airport, 7 at Macedonia airport and 3 at other airports.

The Thessaloniki authorities are in the process of finding a solution to accommodate refugees coming to the city. “From the first day of hostilities in Ukraine, the municipality has been constantly collecting humanitarian aid. At the same time, the process of finding a solution to the urgent issue of accommodating Ukrainian refugees has begun,” Deputy Mayor for Business Planning, E-Government and Immigration Policy Georgios told the Athens-Macedonian news agency Avarlis.

The proposal submitted by the municipality for the immediate placement of humanitarian applicants is the use of 150 housing units (rented apartments) of the ESTIA (former React) program. The corresponding request was submitted to the competent ministry. However, no response has been reported so far.

At the same time, in order to coordinate the refugees arriving in the city, the Municipality of Thessaloniki held a multi-stakeholder meeting. At this meeting, in the presence of Mr. Avarlis, each organization presented their plan for how they can help and support the refugees, whether it be basic necessities, food, psychosocial and legal support, and the use of interpreters.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that in Monopigado of the Termi municipality, where the first Ukrainian families have already settled, it is possible to accommodate about 50 more people in 12 houses, six of which are being renovated.

It was also noted that the Termi Health Center has four Ukrainian-speaking doctors, including a therapist and a pediatrician, and there is also a neurosurgeon of Ukrainian origin who can provide assistance.

Since the beginning of the war, 16,431 citizens of Ukraine have crossed the border with Greece, of which 5,036 are minors. iefimerida.gr.
