Inflation in Greece jumped to 8% in March year on year, according to preliminary data released on Friday by Eurostat, the European Union’s statistical office.
According to the statistical office, annual inflation in the euro area will be 7.5% in March 2022, compared to 5.9% in February.
Looking at the major components of eurozone inflation, energy is expected to have its highest annual rate in March at 44.7%, compared to 32.0% in February. It is followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (5.0% compared to 4.2% in February), non-energy manufactured goods (3.4% vs. 3.1% in February) and services (2.7% vs. .5% in February).
It is expected that Statistics Greece (ΕΛΣΤΑΤ) will publish official inflation data for March on April 15. Local media, citing their sources, report that it will reach 8.5%.
