Change of hours of silence from April 1

From April 1, the legally established “time of silence” changes its parameters due to the arrival of the summer period.

During the summer season, public silence hours are from 15:00 to 17:30 and from 23:00 to 07:00.

It should be noted that the period from April 1 to September 30 is considered summer, and the period from October 1 to March 31 is considered winter.

According to the police, during the hours of day and night silence, the following are prohibited:

  • Work or other activity that creates noise. In exceptional cases of extreme necessity, which cannot be postponed, with a special reasoned permission of the head of the relevant police department, the performance of work, especially for household purposes, that causes noise, may be allowed.
  • The operation of any musical instrument or device – radio, tape recorder or TV – at high volume, screaming, dancing and any other noisy activities in the house or other private areas.
  • Songs, screams, use of musical instruments, operation of radios, tape recorders and televisions in the streets, squares and public places of residential areas, as well as in public transport.
  • Noisy games in cafes, billiard rooms or other public places, as well as screams and loud conversations of the regulars of these establishments.
  • Noisy conversations and quarrels in car parks (bus, TAXI, etc.), loading or unloading goods into or out of trucks, which creates noise, as well as the operation of a car (motorcycle) that is stationary, but whose engine is running at full speed .
  • The use of sirens or other sound devices or security systems unless absolutely necessary, as well as their trial operation.

Violators of the law, according to the Greek police, will be prosecuted according to their guilt. Citizens can apply to the police with a statement and file a complaint against violators.
