An effective molecule will help defeat the coronavirus

Cornell University researchers have identified an effective molecule in the fight against coronavirus – the drug N-0385 blocks the penetration of COVID-19 into the body. And not only.

American scientists have found that the N-0385 molecule is able to block the penetration of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus into human cells when applied nasally. The discovery is described in an article published in the journal Nature. bb.lv

Large-scale experiments in mice have proven that N-0385 not only protects rodents from infection, but also provides successful treatment when administered within the first 12 hours of exposure to the virus. Promising results have shown: the drug prevents the penetration of COVID-19, significantly reduces the severity of the disease and mortality in the post-infection period.

The main indicator in the experiment was the weight of mice – its loss signals an infection and is a good indicator of the disease. However, scientists also investigated other clinical and pathological changes, such as temperature and mortality. They also analyzed rodent tissues to understand how effectively the animals responded to treatment.

The encouraging broad-spectrum therapy was tested in mice exposed to the first strain discovered in Washington state (USA) in 2020, as well as the Delta strain. The drug has not been tested on the omicron variant, but scientists believe that such therapy will become an effective tool in the fight against other new strains of coronavirus.

Meanwhile rising number of cases Coronavirus diseases have recently been a trend that is gradually affecting all of Europe and countries outside of it. Experts note that the pandemic is moving into a milder stage after a period of reduction in the Omicron wave. They attribute the increase in the number of cases to the weakening of many measures to limit the spread of the virus and to the spread of Omicron-2.
