Bakoyannis at an anti-war demonstration in London

Yesterday, a large-scale anti-war demonstration took place in Trafalgar Square in the center of the British capital. Dressed in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, the participants expressed their solidarity with the people of Ukraine, condemning the Russian invasion.

They held posters with slogans “Stop the war”, “Support Ukraine”. The speeches of politicians and public figures were shown on a giant screen installed in the center of the square. Among them is the mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannis.

In his speech, Mr. Bakoyannis noted that Athens, uniting its voice with the rest of the world, is proud to participate in a solidarity action in support of Ukrainian citizens. They send “messages of hope, strength, unity and peace.” The mayor of Athens noted that “in the past month dark authoritarian forces have attacked the values we all hold dear: democracy, freedom, the rule of law and human rights.”

Kostas Bakoyannis praised the courage and heroism of the Ukrainians, who “defended their sovereignty, self-determination and democracy in this brutal attack.” He noted that Ukrainians “are also fighting for all of us, for each of us throughout the world.” At the end of the speech, the mayor of Athens noted: “From London to Athens and beyond, we are all on the side of Ukraine,” the publication quoted newsbeast.gr.
