The Prime Minister of Greece specified on Friday, March 25: “Our country is provided with gas until the end of 2022.”

Even though the summit EUwhich took place on March 24 and 25 in Brussels and was devoted to the discussion of energy problems, agreements were reached to a certain extent, Greece intends to clarify the size of its own gas, oil and coal reserves.

Soon writes dikaiologitika.gr, announcements will be made on the extraction of natural gas fields in the Ionian Sea and Crete. “We look forward to announcements next week on the exploration of natural deposits,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis from Brussels. “The country must know if there are gas fields in the territory suitable for commercial exploitation. We do not even know their real volume, and therefore we must find out. Another question is whether there are companies that are interested in fulfilling this mission,” the Prime Minister stressed, answering a question about the presence of deposits in Greece, specifically in Crete and the Ionian Sea.

As the Athenian News previously reported, in Crete, in the Ionian Sea region, it seems that the hidden treasure of Greece.

Chairman of the Board of Hellenic Hydrocarbon Management Company (Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Διαχείρισης Υδρογονανθράκων) Yannis Basias states that “natural gas deposits in the offshore part south of Critarel are between 3 and 30 trillion cubic meters and oil -“.

According to the Democracy newspaper (2019 data), Mr. Basias noted that the evaluation of the deposits is based on an analysis of the similarities between the regions of Western Greece and the areas in which the Zora deposit was discovered, as well as the area located south of Crete, with the offshore fields Calypso and Onesiforos.

It is estimated that Greece has natural gas reserves of at least 4 trillion cubic meters, and oil fields are estimated at three billion barrels.

The state profit from these natural reserves is estimated at about 600 billion euros. Experts believe that within 25 years “the money may already begin to flow into the state treasury, from the moment when the contracts for the development of deposits are signed.”
