Free Internet again in the subway

Metro passengers in Athens will again receive free internet – free access to WI-FI will return on lines 2 and 3 of the metropolitan metro.

Passengers on lines 2 and 3 will be able to travel comfortably thanks to the free internet connection. According to the data dikaiologitika.grthe city’s public transport organization STASY and the Ministry of Digital Government will enter into a memorandum of cooperation for a period of 3 years (with a possible extension in the future) as soon as possible.

The Ministry will take over the implementation of the project, and in return STASY will offer free advertising for digital services, which the citizen can find on the website gov.gr. Advertising posters will be placed in prominent locations on the metro, such as inside trains or on platforms.

The first installation of the relevant equipment to enable the Internet took place in 2013 on a trial basis, following the first announcements in 2011 by the Minister of Infrastructure of the then government, Mr. Raguzis.

At that time, WI-FI operated at 7 stations, but due to the fact that there were problems with the service, a good undertaking came to naught.
