Tremors in Japan with a magnitude of 7.4 on the Richter scale led to loss of life and destruction, hundreds of victims. The footage of the disaster is reminiscent of a horror movie.
The earthquake hit the northeast coast of Japan, shortly before midnight local time, at 23:36. The source was located in the Pacific Ocean, near the island of Honshu, in the area of Fukushima Prefecture, at a depth of 57 km.
As a result of seismic activity, according to preliminary data, at least 4 people were killed, more than a hundred injured, more than two million houses were left without electricity, including in the Japanese capital.
More than 4,000 households in Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate prefectures were left without water supply. Damaged roads in the cities of Shiroishi and Tome (Miyagi Prefecture). A low-rise residential building collapsed in Fukushima Prefecture.
The Shinkansen high-speed train derailed between Fukushima and Shiroishizao, no one was injured in the accident. The movement of trains and high-speed express trains was interrupted on several directions. Many transport links in the northeastern part of the archipelago have been cut in half. After seismic activity, a tsunami threat was declared, but it was later canceled.
The earthquake, according to authorities, did not lead to emergency situations at nuclear power plants located in the region. Authorities and companies from semiconductor manufacturers to major automakers are still trying to assess the damage from the devastating earthquake.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said authorities would remain vigilant for the next 48 to 72 hours due to the possibility of another major tremor.
