The strength of the tremors in the south of Crete early this morning reached 4.6 on the Richter scale.
According to the automatic decision of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Institute, the earthquake occurred in the early morning of Wednesday 16.03 at 04:20 in Crete. Its epicenter is fixed in the underwater region of the South Cretan Sea, not far from the southern coast of Heraklion. It was located 24 km south/southeast of Arkalohori and 46 km south/southeast of Heraklion. The depth of the earthquake source, according to EMSC, is estimated at 16.4 km.
The revised decision of the Geodynamic Institute of the Athens Observatory estimates an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale, with a focal depth of 16.4 km and an epicenter 17 km west/southwest of Arvis.
