Gasoline coupons for the poor

On Thursday, March 17, the Prime Minister of Greece will address the nation with a video message, which, among other things, will highlight the issue of subsidies and assistance to citizens caught in the grip of inflation.

In addition to information on subsidizing tariffs for electricity and gas, on the issuance of an emergency allowance for low-income households, measures will be reported for partial coverage of the cost of liquid fuel.

The last measure is the most difficult to fine-tune, as the number of beneficiaries will be huge. There are two scenarios in the implementation of the plan, reports dikaiologitika.gr.

One of them is to get a refund of the tax or part of the fuel tax, which is a serious problem. These tax data must be issued to each consumer participating in the program in order to make a refund of a part of the tax (VAT + VAT), which is one of the highest in Europe.

However, this method requires a lengthy process and the need to issue “personal” receipts – something that gas stations cannot do today – which must be declared on the new platform to AADE and then tax refunded.

The most preferred solution is similar to the one that worked with fixed cost coverage. A voucher with a certain lump sum will be issued to each beneficiary (according to the consumption, which will be confirmed by the corresponding expenses). The cost of gasoline will be repaid (gradually spent) to pay the citizen’s debts to the state.

The final script with all the details and details will be approved today, March 16, and officially announced tomorrow.
