Strengthening the flow of tourists from France to Greece

Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias met with the leadership of the Greco-French Friendship Group of the French Senate, consisting of President Didier Marie and Vice Presidents Françoise Dumont and Laurence Harribe. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Tourism, emphasized the great potential that exists to further enhance the strong tourist flow from France, the corresponding message emphasizes.

The French side praised the measures taken by Greece in terms of combating the pandemic, which have contributed to the fact that the country has become a safe place for the French who have visited it over the past two years. Mr Kikilias assured the French senators that Greece will actively follow the same policy in 2022.

Both sides agreed on the importance of Greek tourism in extending the tourist season, which is accompanied by infrastructure projects and strategic options that effectively address current challenges. In this context, the Minister of Tourism described the resources of the Recovery and Resilience Fund as an excellent opportunity for a strong and modern infrastructure that will strengthen Greece’s ability to receive more and more visitors.

Mr. Kikilias also developed a Ministry of Tourism plan for themed tourism, city breaks, cruises, winter tourism and the emergence of alternative destinations, with the French side underlining its full support for Greek actions and initiatives.

Finally, the Minister of Tourism informed about the strategic decision of the Greek government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on making Greece a model country for sustainable tourism development.

As emphasized by Mr. Kikilias: “We are moving towards a more sustainable tourism model that takes into account a number of factors related to protecting the environment, promoting authenticity, connecting with the primary sector, enhancing its visitor experience. Our goal is to present Greece as a global model for sustainable tourism development.”
