How much will the price of bread rise?

According to Michalis Musios, president of the Hellenic Bakers’ Federation, flour prices have risen sharply over the past few weeks.

Greek households are in a whirlwind of rising prices for energy and raw materials. The situation was further complicated by the events in Ukraine. A new rise in prices for essential goods, including bread, is considered inevitable, the expert notes.

“Prices for the first arrivals of soft cereals (from which flour for bakery products are made) rose by 60% last week. A small bag that cost 13-15 euros will now cost 22 euros or more,” said Michalis Musios.

“We import 20% of soft grains from Ukraine, 10% from Russia and 5% from Moldova,” he told MEGA, noting that growth in staples such as bread is inevitable.

“We will see an increase in bakery products in the coming days. I can’t determine what they will be, but it’s definitely not the final version. No one can estimate today how much the price of bread will jump, ”writes dikaiologitika.gr.
