WHO: conditions now in Ukraine are ideal for the spread of contagious diseases

The World Health Organization warns of an imminent surge in infections in Ukraine.

The situation creates ideal conditions for the spread of contagious diseases – people are constantly moving, there is not enough food and medicine. WHO experts compare the consequences of the crisis with the Horseman of the Apocalypse. Emergency Organization Program Director Michael Ryan says:

“Food shortages, people moving. We’ve seen this in the Horn of Africa. Tragically, infectious diseases have always been associated with one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. And infectious diseases and conflict are closely linked. So there should be no surprise here.”

The only shocking thing for people is the fact that everything is happening in Europe, where efforts have been made for many years to eradicate contagious diseases. But similar situations happen all the time in all regions of the world, says Ryan, where there are conflicts, tsunamis and floods, various devastating climate disasters:

“The pictures that people are now seeing, we have seen for decades around the world. The reality is that the conditions that we see in Ukraine are ideal for the spread of infectious diseases. It doesn’t matter if it is COVID-19 or polio, measles, cholera “.

According to him, the health crisis in Ukraine is only getting worse. Many city hospitals are abandoned, as the authorities do not have the ability to maintain their infrastructure, provide fuel and electricity, quotes RIA News. The WHO representative emphasizes:

“I would say that we are now trying to bandage a mortal wound. And I think the world should open its eyes to this. The medical workers who are now in Ukraine and those who work on the front lines are exceptionally brave people, and we will do everything in our power to support them.”
