The premiere of the 2015 comedy-satire series “Servant of the People” took place on the Greek central channel ANT1 on the night of Clean Monday (07.03). The main role in the film was played by the former artist of the corresponding genre, and now the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
Alas, writes dikaiologitika.gr, the film, the release of which on TV screens was so expected by the Greek audience, did not seem to give the predicted results, he managed to gain only 6% of the audience’s attention. Although the purpose of the broadcast was to support the Ukrainian people.
Twitter reactions to Zelensky’s role in TV series
However, the response from the Greek public on Twitter was mixed, with several users expressing the “numbness” they felt watching the film’s comic scenes as dramatic moments unfolded in Ukraine at the same time. Others spoke out against ANT1, accusing it of “blasphemy” for its decision to broadcast a comedy series under military conditions, that is, when everyone is not in the mood for jokes at all.
Vladimir Aleksandrovich Zelensky is a Ukrainian politician, comedian, screenwriter, actor and director of the production company Kvartal 95, President of Ukraine since 2019.
The Servant of the People series won the audience’s sympathy and won the WorldFest Remi Award (TV series category) and the World Media Festival (TV series entertainment category). In 2018, Servant of the People was awarded at international festivals in the USA, Germany and South Korea, including the WorldFest Remi Award and a nominee for the Seoul International Drama Awards. Nominated for the National Television Award “Teletriumph 2018” (Wikipedia reference).
