The Ukrainian representative in Canada said that local authorities are considering the possibility of introducing a visa-free regime for refugees from the war.
According to Andriy Bukich, Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine in Canada, the Canadian government is considering the possibility of introducing a visa-free regime for Ukrainians, refugees from military operations.
After speaking during the telethon about the opening of the Canadian Department of Immigration, Sean Fraser announced the development of solutions that would allow Ukrainians who already have a Canadian visa (or those who have relatives and friends in Canada) to take people with them, those in need of asylum.
However, the issue of a visa-free regime for all refugees is still under discussion. In addition, Bukvich said that there is already a consensus among political parties, but there are no mechanisms for its implementation yet. “The Government of Canada is developing a mechanism for its implementation,” said the charge d’affaires.
According to the head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Philip Grady, more than two million refugees have left Ukraine since the Russian Federation launched a military operation on the territory of Ukraine on February 24.
