Important information for refugees from Ukraine

The Ministry of Migration and Asylum of Greece has issued instructions for citizens of Ukraine regarding the conditions of arrival in Greece, and also informed where and how they can receive assistance and asylum.

You can enter Greece by following the following procedures:

Holders of Ukrainian passports with biometric data can enter through all checkpoints (land and air) with a maximum duration of 90 days. Holders of Ukrainian passports without biometrics (old type) can enter through all checkpoints with the required entry visa or transit visa with a maximum duration of 90 days.

Attention: in the above cases, the Greek Police will stamp your passport with the date of entry.

Citizens of Ukraine who do not have travel documents can only enter through the Promakhonas checkpoint, where you will be issued with an appropriate document from the staff of the Embassy of Ukraine in Greece. After undergoing this procedure, you can stay with a maximum duration of 90 days. If your children do not have travel documents, the Greek Police will mark under the entry stamp in your passport the number of minors you are accompanying.

Attention: in this case, you will need to provide a certificate of marital status or a birth certificate of your children. If you do not have any of these documents, you will need to complete and submit a special responsible application form with the number of children, with the name, surname, gender and date of birth of each of them.

Provision of temporary protection (asylum)

Within 90 days, you will be granted temporary protection for one (1) year by the Asylum Service of the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum with the right to access legal employment, medical and pharmaceutical care in accordance with Directive 2001/55 of the Council of the European Union.

Help and accommodation

Until the completion of the procedure for issuing travel documents, if necessary, there is the possibility of providing short-term accommodation in an open hospitality center in the municipality of Sintica in the province of Serres for those who wish it.

Unaccompanied minors

For unaccompanied minors, the national mechanism for the identification and protection of unaccompanied minors from the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum is activated, with the aim of transporting children to special urgent hospitality centers. This is followed by the prescribed identification procedure (if necessary) and accompaniment by an authorized person.
