Nearly 45 kg of raw cannabis were found in possession of two foreigners who were arrested on a rural road near the Greek-North Macedonia border.
They are two citizens, residents of North Macedonia, aged 41 and 45, allegedly members of an international network for the importation and trafficking of raw cannabis. One of them is marked ΕΛ.ΑΣ., as chief executive of the criminal network, reports iefimerida.gr.
The confiscated drug appears to have been intended to be given to a 40-year-old Albanian citizen, allegedly a member of the same gang, who was arrested in Diavat (Thessaloniki). The amount of 2,400 euros was found on him, which, according to the police, was a payment for transporting drugs to Thessaloniki.
An arrest warrant has been issued against the alleged leader for drug trafficking, and he will be punished up to and including criminal liability.
The aforementioned operation was carried out by the Thessaloniki Anti-Narcotics Police Department, in cooperation with their counterparts from Athens, as well as the competent authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Kilkis Police Department.
