Bodies of migrants killed in shipwreck found on Lesbos coast

Six dead migrants found on Mytilene – two in the sea and four on the shore, taken out by the waves. The Coast Guard is looking for survivors, according to the Athens Macedonian News Agency.

The wreckage of the boat and the corpses were noticed early in the morning by passers-by who reported to the relevant services. It is not yet known when the shipwreck occurred and how many people could be on the ship. According to initial information, they are migrants. Coast Guard personnel are at the scene of the incident, hoping to find living or other bodies, reports ertnews.gr. The bodies of three women and three men were taken to the Mytilini morgue. They were not wearing life jackets.

The search operation involves three Likenikos ships, a helicopter, watercraft and coast guard forces on land.

In December, our publication reported that in the sea area northwest of the Greek island of Paros, a large-scale search andrescue operation to search for migrants in distress. According to the first information, the sailboat that carried them capsized, and about 80 passengers were in the water. It was already the fourth ship with illegal migrants that was in distress in just the last three days.
