Greece closes skies to Russian planes

The Greek Civil Aviation Authority has issued a directive banning Russian aircraft from flying in its airspace while the war is going on in Ukraine.

Over 180 flights this morning delayed or canceled at three Moscow airports – Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo: 6 flights delayed and 43 canceled at Vnukovo, 9 flights delayed and 14 canceled at Domodedovo, 14 delayed and 100 canceled at Sheremetyevo.

The directive, which will be valid for 3 months and comes into force from today, February 28, 2022. It is applied after EU close its airspace to Russia. The APE-MPE agency presents the notam provisions:

Aircraft owned, operated by Russia or controlled by Russia, including private jets, are prohibited from landing, taking off, entering or crossing Greek national airspace. Flights of humanitarian interest, hospital flights and search and rescue flights, with the permission of the Greek government, as well as all aircraft flights under a state of emergency, are exempt from the aviation directive. The legal notice will be valid for three months and is effective today, Monday 28 February 2022.
