Fakes and lies around the war in Ukraine. Part 1

“Russian Athens” is starting a new column dedicated to fakes spread by the media regarding the war between Ukraine and Russia.

Despite the fact that funded by Western embassies and the Soros Foundation, the publication “stopfake” bans our accounts under the pretext of fakes, while spreading massive fakeswe still found some support from its Greek division Ellinika Hoaxeswhich, despite being member International Association of Fact Checkers, is also subject to repression by the brainchild of Mark Zuckerberg.

Today we will start with publications in the Greek media, which have recently completely stopped checking data from Western agencies waging an information war against Russia.

Fake 1

Recently, a series of photographs of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in military uniform was published in the Greek media and social networks. The purpose of the photo shoot was to show the heroism of Zelensky, who is allegedly on the front line. However, these photos are quite old.

They were taken during a visit to the contact line in Donbas in November 2021.

Most of the posts base their claims on the following tweet:

This account, although it has a logo similar to the logo of the American network NBChas nothing to do with it and was created a few days ago.

In searching for the date of the photos, we used the Tin Eye reverse image search engine, according to which the original photo has been published since December 6, 2021, as we can see in the related article Reuters.

Claims that the above photographs appear to be current have been circulated abroad and denied by news outlets such as Reuters Fact Check And Fact Cresendo.

Fake 2

These photos are from a Twitter post claiming to be Russian Air Force aircraft in Ukraine.

Contrary to what these publications and posts claim, the pictures were taken not in the last days in Ukraine, but taken from videoposted on YouTube on May 4, 2020.

The video, as the title suggests, shows a Russian Air Force rehearsal as part of a military parade for Victory Day, celebrated in Russia on May 9, and was filmed in the Tushino area, 17 kilometers southwest of Moscow. The same video resurfaced on YouTube under the title “FlyBy Moscow 2020published on the same day, listing the types of aircraft involved in the rehearsal. No sirens are heard, indicating that the video in question has been edited.

Fake 3

News sites and Facebook are posting a photo that allegedly shows the landing of Russian paratroopers in Kyiv. However, this is a reflection from light sources in the photo’s field of view.

This photo was wide common in various media and social networks, but in reality it does not capture the fall of Russian paratroopers in Kyiv. The bright dots we see are due to reflections from light sources present in the field of view of the photo.

In the next gif, we see the correspondence of the bright dots on the left in the photo to the light sources from which the reflection comes from on the right.

In fact, the points of light that we see in the photograph in question are due to reflections from light sources in the field of view of the photograph.
