Tsiodras announced the first case of covid in Greece two years ago

On February 26, 2020, Sotiris Tsiodras announced that the first case of coronavirus was detected in our country. COVID-19 came to our country from a Greek traveler who returned from Northern Italy. We remind you that it became one of the first regions of Europe “affected” by the coronavirus.

“The first case of the disease has been confirmed in Greece. This is a 38-year-old Greek woman who came from Northern Italy. She is in good health and is being monitored by a medical team. “At the moment, her contacts are being monitored, relatives will go into self-isolation, and their health will be under the control of specialists,” Mr. Tsiodras said at a historical briefing by the Ministry of Health.

The professor of infectious diseases then emphasized that “in the vast majority of cases, the disease is mild,” the publication quoted news4health.gr.

At the same time, he recommended that all citizens observe protective measures and hygiene rules. At the same time, he added that those who arrived in Greece in the following days from the affected areas of Northern Italy should “monitor their health and in case of symptoms, stay at home and notify their doctor or EODY.”

Two years later – more than 25,000 deaths

After the registration of the first case in our country, events developed rapidly. On March 10, a decision was made to close schools for 14 days. Two days later, the first death from COVID occurred on March 23, when the country declared its first general lockdown.

It should be noted that as of March 23, 2020, a total of 695 cases of covid were registered in our country.

Exactly 2 years after the first positive case of coronavirus in Greece, 2,369,396 cases were detected, and 25,603 people died.
