The Church of Greece is ready to accept refugees from Ukraine

Church non-governmental organization of Greece “Συνύπαρξις”, which accepts refugees and underage migrants, declares its readiness to accept refugees from Ukraine.

“We are all shocked by the recent events in Ukraine and the pain caused to its inhabitants, and declare that we are ready, if necessary, to help with all our might in the possible temporary accommodation of our brothers and sisters who can be moved to Greece,” the organization said in a statement, according to publication information orthodoxtimes.gr.

“Praying that the whirlwind of war will end soon, we hope that no one will have to leave their father’s house and mourn the unjust loss of human lives,” the conclusion says.

It is expected that in the next few days the Church of Greece will decide whether to activate its structures to receive refugees from Ukraine.

According to dw.com, the heads of Ukrainian religious associations appealed to peace and Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We responsibly and unanimously reaffirm that the people of Ukraine do not want war, and we consider it the common duty of believers to end it before it’s too late,” the members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches wrote in a letter to Vladimir Putin, urging him to dialogue in order to restore peace. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate joined the 16 members of the council, representing the interests of more than 95% of religious communities in Ukraine.
