A mother and her two minor children were killed in a fire that broke out at their home in Thessaloniki early Wednesday morning.
It is reported that the 32-year-old mother tried to open the door of the house and take the children, aged 8 and 11, out of the burning house, but died before she could do it.
Firefighters found the mother outside the front door and her children in their bedroom.
At the time of the tragedy, the father was absent, as he is a truck driver.
Last year the family bought an old house in Nea Magnisia, Delta municipality. They renovated it and have been living there since last summer.
According to the first check by fire investigators, which was made immediately after the fire, the cause of the fire was most likely an electric heater.
The mother and two children did not have time to leave the house, as they were trapped in fire and smoke when the roof of the house collapsed, according to firefighters. local media .
About twenty people have died in fires in Greece since the start of the heating season in November 2021.
The main reason was home-made or low-quality heating devices, which are actively used by the population due to high prices for fuel oil and gas.
