Flight ban over Ukraine

The air directive recommends air carriers to be especially careful and not to use the airspace on the Ukrainian-Russian border.

The ban on flights in the airspace of Ukraine is provided for by the aviation directive of the Civil Aviation Administration, according to the publication. in.gr.

It is also recommended that all civil aircraft avoid crossing the airspace (FIR) located on the border between Ukraine and Russia.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announces the issuance of an aviation instruction (notam), effective from today and for a period of three months, in accordance with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) newsletter regarding the closure of Ukrainian air traffic and a ban on the passage of civil aircraft due to the high risk of military activity in the region.

The directive also recommends that air carriers be extremely careful and avoid using the airspace on the Ukrainian-Russian border.

In particular, notam provides the following:

Civil aircraft are prohibited from entering the entire airspace (FIR) of Ukraine. Due to the high risk, it is recommended to avoid all civil aircraft crossings from the airspace (FIR) located on the border between Ukraine and Russia.

The aviation directive is valid for three months from today, Thursday 24 February 2022, until Tuesday 24 May 2022.
