Returning from an African tour, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan answered journalists’ questions about the latest developments around Ukraine.
The head of the Turkish state has not yet decided on a choice and does not want to give up relations with either Russia or Ukraine. In his statement, the President of Turkey noted that he successfully maintains economic, political and military relations with both Ukraine and Russia, therefore he is counting on a diplomatic solution to the situation and maintaining relations with both states, the newspaper writes. Erdogan is for the resumption of dialogue and is going to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin after talks with NATO partners:
“Currently, contacts are being established for the visit of Mr. Putin. In the meantime, we will continue telephone diplomacy with him. I hope that we will achieve good results.”
As reported by the publication RBC, the decision of Russia to recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics is unacceptable, the parties should be guided by common sense when resolving such issues, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. His words are quoted by the Anadolu agency:
“We consider this decision unacceptable. We call on the parties to use common sense and respect international law.”
