Recognition of the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass. What’s next?

Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, signed decrees on mutual assistance with them, and instructed the Russian armed forces to ensure “peacekeeping” in these Donbas regions.

He justified his decision by the defense interests of Russia:

“The choice of ways to ensure security should not pose a threat to other states, and Ukraine’s accession to NATO is a direct threat to Russia’s security.”

In social networks, users post videos, which, according to them, depict the entry of Russian armored vehicles into the DPR and LPR.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation and promised, among other things, that his country’s internationally recognized borders would remain the same:

“We expect clear and effective steps of support from our partners, now it is very important to understand who is a true friend and ally, and who will continue to scare the Russian Federation only in words. We are committed to a political and diplomatic settlement and do not succumb to any provocations.”

Against the background of a new round of the crisis in New York, the UN Security Council gathered for an emergency meeting. Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya called on the countries of the world to focus on de-escalating the conflict. “Now it is important to concentrate on how to avoid war and force Ukraine to stop shelling and provocations against Donetsk and Lugansk,” he said, and then left the meeting immediately before the speech of his Ukrainian colleague.

Serhiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN, promised that “Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders have been and will remain unchanged regardless of any statements and actions by the Russian Federation.”

US President Joe Biden said that the recognition of Donbass threatens America’s national security and signed a decree banning trade and investment in the DPR and LPR.

In the east of Ukraine, a few days ago, the evacuation of civilians began, reports euronews. The authorities of the self-proclaimed republics announced an escalation of tension in the region through the fault of the Ukrainian security forces. However, these statements are categorically denied in Kiev.
