Mitsotakis on Russia’s actions: they undermine international stability

Russia’s unilateral recognition of the “independence” of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics grossly violates international law, the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the Minsk agreements, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on February 22.

“Like any revision initiative, it undermines international stability and progress,” Mitsotakis said.

“Greece, as a fundamental principle, respects the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of all states. Therefore, it unequivocally condemns actions contrary to these values and, as a member state of the European Union and NATO, is already coordinating with its partners to ensure that the response is common and effective.”

“Our country,” Mr. Mitsotakis concluded, “has another reason to be concerned and to follow developments: the protection and support of the Greek community in Ukraine and the large community in Mariupol, which has been present in the region for over 2,000 years, and for which we we are working.”

Previously similar statement did The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, which called Russia’s recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR a violation of the law.

“Russia’s recognition of the illegal and unilateral declaration of the “independence” of the separatist territories of Donetsk and Lugansk of Ukraine is a clear violation of the fundamental principles of international law, the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the Minsk agreements. We have repeatedly stressed that Greece stands for respect for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of all states and condemns any decision that is contrary to these fundamental principles of international law. As part of its commitment to the European Union and NATO, Greece will consult and coordinate with its European partners and allies regarding the response to this decision.” “Russia’s recognition of the illegal and unilateral declaration of the “independence” of the separatist territories of Donetsk and Lugansk of Ukraine is a clear violation of the fundamental principles of international law, the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the Minsk agreements.
