How to get benefits if you get sick after contracting coronavirus

With the advent of the digital age in Greece, many actions have become easy to do, including receiving benefits for sickness caused by the coronavirus.

The administration of the Electronic National Social Security Agency e-ΕΦΚΑ (Ηλεκτρονικού Εθνικού Φορέα Κοινωνικής Ασφάλισης) said yesterday in a statement that it is working on the necessary configuration of the electronic application for sickness benefits.

In the very near future, it will be possible for private sector employees to apply for special leave for 5 working days related to coronavirus infection electronically. This will require confirmation of a positive diagnostic test, according to the relevant medical protocols, in the context of implementing the provisions of Article 62 4886/2022 (A’ 12) and Ministerial Decision No. 6924/27.1.2022 (B’ 291).

The beneficiaries, as recalled by e-EFKA, are private sector employees with an employment contract, in case of confirmation of coronavirus infection, provided that they are not provided with remote work. Special leave can be extended, like regular sick leave, solely on the basis of a medical certificate in accordance with the opinion of a doctor. newsbeast.gr.

It is important that the beneficiary can apply to e-EFKA for cash assistance within eight months after the event, the agency clarifies:

“Therefore, there is no cause for concern for those beneficiaries who are still unable to submit a request to the e-EFKA. They will be able to submit it from March 8, by which date the specific setup of the electronic application for sickness benefits will be completed.”
