Smuggled meat of dubious quality served in restaurants

Cases of food smuggling without basic hygiene require immediate sanitary and judicial investigation.

According to the publication Dnews today, February 18, small cars stop near the central market of Athens, Varvakeio, and drivers load meat from the stalls, which wholesalers then resell to retail restaurants.

As can be clearly seen in the photographs, a foreigner puts carcasses in the trunk of an old Fiat car along with another person, his partner, the driver of this vehicle.

The photo shows a stating fact that there are no certification seals on meat products. From this we can make a reasonable conclusion that this activity goes “by the tax”, without paying VAT (ie, there is tax evasion).

It is a chain of restaurants that use Asian foreigners as hauliers for other fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables, according to butcher shop owners.

Goods are first delivered to the nearest warehouses (Sokratus St., Epicurus, Euripidou, etc.), where in the afternoon, when control is relaxed, restaurant representatives come and pick up products in closed trucks.

And then in the evening you and I in a tavern or restaurant absorb this “tax-free” miracle of cooking.
