Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias protested to Ankara, stating the illegal existing accusations of Turkish officials regarding the sovereignty of the Greek islands.
According to diplomatic sources, the Foreign Ministry underlined “Greece’s strong dissatisfaction, as well as its protests against recent statements Turkish officialswhich have called into question the sovereignty of Greece over the Aegean Islands, accusations that are certainly illegal and unfounded.”

The protest was conveyed by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Turkish Ambassador in Athens.
According to the same sources, it was stressed that these statements are “not just counterproductive, but an escalation of Turkey’s provocative behavior. The oxymoronism of the Turkish positions was additionally emphasized, since the Turkish side constantly refers to international law at the moment when it grossly violates it.”
In the context, the Greek side made a clear reference to casus belli, illegal Turkish-Libyan memorandumrhetoric about “blue motherland“and some statements that are intended to disavow Lausanne and subsequent agreements.
Also, the Greek Foreign Ministry gave relevant instructions to the Greek embassies in the EU member states, NATO and members of the UN Security Council to provide relevant information about the escalation of Turkey’s provocative behavior.
