American President Joe Biden called on the citizens of his country to immediately evacuate Ukraine during an interview with NBC television.
He urged Americans to do it “now” as the situation there could escalate:
It’s not the same as dealing with a terrorist organization. We are dealing with one of the largest armies in the world. It’s a completely different situation and things can get crazy fast.
A similar statement was made earlier by the US State Department, recommending that Americans leave Ukraine using commercial or other modes of transport. The agency also recommended not to travel to Ukraine due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the alleged increased threat of a military invasion from Russia, the news outlet writes. “Lenta.ru”.
Canadian authorities and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison also made calls to leave Ukraine. The leadership of these states stated the need to do this as soon as possible.
In his interview, Biden explained why US troops would not be sent to Ukraine, even if necessary, – he suggested that such a move could start a new world war. And he added that the American military “under no circumstances” will be sent to Ukraine.
However, on February 7, the White House admitted this possibility. Jen Psaki, a spokeswoman for the department, said the United States “leaves the opportunity for such a move open.”
On the night of February 11, negotiations between Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France within the Normandy format ended in Berlin. They lasted 9 hours and did not bring any result. According to Dmitry Kozak, deputy head of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation, Ukraine took an unshakable position in the negotiations, refusing to overcome differences on the settlement of the conflict in Donbass.
